松花江源出长白山天池，拥有众多支流，在满语中的原意是“天河”。它如一条绿色飘带横贯吉林市全城。全长1840多公里，流域面积545000平方公里，在全国各大江河流域中，仅次于长江、黄河，居第三位，好比东北人民的保姆。它不仅宽广绵长，更拥有富饶美丽的物产和迷人的神...奇风光。松花江滋养着东北引以为傲的黑土地。这里盛产大豆、玉米、高粱、小麦。此外，亚麻、棉花、菸草、苹果和甜菜亦品质优良。松花江也是中国东北地区的一个大淡水鱼场，每年供应的鲤、卿、鳇、哲罗鱼等，达四千万公斤以上。到松花江游览，自然应当选择冬季。著名的松花江雾凇只有冬季才出现。观赏雾凇，最好的当属每年12月下旬至次年2月底了。吉林雾凇吉林的雾凇属晶状雾凇，这种雾凇比较松散呈较大的片状，最富有观赏性。
吉林市每年举办一次“雾凇冰雪节”，看的是十里长堤，银挂满枝的大气和妖娆。吉林还有个雾凇岛，也以雾凇多且美丽而得名。这里的地势较吉林市区低，又有江水环抱。冷热空气在这里相交，冬季里几乎天天有树挂，有时一连几天也不掉落。岛上的曾通屯是欣赏雾淞最好的去处，曾有“赏雾凇，到曾通”之说。这里树形奇特，沿江的垂柳挂满了洁白晶莹的霜花，江风吹拂银丝闪烁，景色既野又美。雾凇岛对面还有一个好去处，那就是乌拉街韩屯江。这是个满族镇，居住在这里大多是满族旗人后裔，韩屯则是个小村，位于松花江畔。如今来的人多了，村民也会在家里布置一些客房给游人住。纸糊的窗户、火烧的炕、报纸糊的墙，主人用柴房烧饭，空气中弥漫着农家特有的、好闻的炊烟味。一早起床就会发现，清晨的雾凇岛尤其美，松花江静静地流淌，远处是树干枯的枝桠。
